Family Values Forté was founded in family, when James Piesse set out to create a business that would serve his 8 children and the generations beyond.

Behind the scenes

Our Legacy

1985

Current owner, James, started his business named Heritage Design. He specialised in making intricate Kauri furniture.

1990

James founded Heritage Timbers with his father, Kelvin. This grew to become one of New Zealand's largest native timber wholesalers.

2001

The Heritage Timbers sawmill was purpose built in Pukekohe. Native New Zealand Timbers were sought and milled here and made into furniture, joinery and more. A majority was sold on to be made into native timber flooring.

2007

After James' father retired, the company faced major logging restrictions imposed by the government. This made native New Zealand timbers very difficult to source.

2009

The company battled through some difficult years and emerged in 2009 with a new vision... to specialise in Engineered Timber Flooring.

2014

The company changed from Heritage Timbers to Forté Flooring and quickly grew to become one of New Zealand's leading Timber Flooring and Wall Covering specialists.

2016

The first Forté Flooring showroom opened in Kingsland, Auckland. This provided a space for customers to view the full range in large scale.

2017

A re-brand was implemented to reflect the company's position in the market. Along with a new look, Forté Flooring became 'Forté'.

Forté started specialising in architectural products and working with renowned architects and designers throughout New Zealand.

2018

The Forté Queenstown Showroom opened in July 2018.

Forté introduce their first range of outdoor flooring by exclusively bringing Millboard premium decking to the New Zealand market.

2019

Forté Wellington opened it's doors in March 2019.
